I just finished reading Gipsy Moth Circles the World by Sir Francis Chichester. My grandfather had it on his shelf and insisted I take it home.

Chichester was the first person to, well, I’m not sure. He wasn’t the first to sail around the world (Juan Sebastian Elcano, 1522), or the first to do it singlehanded (Joshua Slocum, 1898), or the first to do it singlehanded and nonstop (Robin Knox-Johnston, 1969). What is remarkable is the fame he attained without doing those things. So what did he do?
